Curtis P 40 was an American singleseat single engine from World War II it was built in large numbers and used by the USAAF, RAF many Commonwealth countries and other Allies.
Depending on the model and the user it was not very slowly as Hawk, Tomahawk, Warhawk, or Kittyhawk
250 Squadron RAF started using Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawks in April 1940. Based in the western desert it undertook bomber escort and ground attack missions in support of the Eighth Army.
The squadron moved to Sicily following its invasion. From there it moved to Italy supporting army units until the end of the war when the Kittyhawks were replaced by P-51 Mustangs. 250 squadron was disbanded at the end of 1946.
LD-B AK919 was flown by Sqn Ldr Mike Judd, who scored 4 victories in North Africa, followed by an additional one in Western Europe. AK919 was struck off charge on 8th March 1944.
