HMS Undaunted (1914) British Light Cruiser
HMS Undaunted was an Arethusa-class light cruiser built for the Royal Navy before the First World War. Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company constructed her at Govan, Scotland. Launched on 28 April 1914, she entered service in August 1914.
Designed for reconnaissance and destroyer flotilla support, Undaunted displaced approximately 3,750 tons and could reach 28.5 knots. Her main armament consisted of two 6-inch guns, six 4-inch guns and four 21-inch torpedo tubes.
Initially, Undaunted served with the Harwich Force, operating against German naval forces in the North Sea.
She participated in the Battle off Texel on 17 October 1914. Under Captain Cecil Fox, Undaunted led four British destroyers against four German torpedo boats.
The British squadron engaged SMS S115, S117, S118 and S119, sinking all four vessels without losing a ship.
In December 1914, Undaunted supported the Cuxhaven Raid against German Zeppelin facilities.
However, her wartime service also included two serious collisions. She struck HMS Landrail in 1915 and HMS Cleopatra in March 1916, requiring repairs.
She was sold for scrapping on 9 April 1923.
