Grumman Hellcats of 1839 Naval Air Squadron

Formed on 15 November 1943, 1839 NAS was transported to Ceylon onboard HMS Begum. From July 1944, 1839 NAS was allocated to HMS Indomitable. For the remainder of the year, strikes were made on Sumatra, and the Nicobar Islands.

In 1945, the squadron participated in airstrikes on Okinawa as part of the British Pacific Fleet.
