Hawker Hurricane in Irish Service

The Irish Air Corps operated Hawker Hurricane fighters from 1940 to 1947. The initial three Hurricanes (a Mk.I and two Mk.IIBs) were recovered and repaired aircraft that crash landed in Ireland. Later aircraft were purchased directly from Britain. These included four Mk.Is exchanged for the IIBs, in 1943, seven additional Mk.Is from December 1943 to March 1944 and finally six Mk.IICs in March 1945. In 1947 they were replaced by de-navalised Supermarine Seafire III fighters.
