Renard R.32 Belgian Reconnaissance Aircraft

Renard R.32 Belgian Reconnaissance Aircraft

A development of the Renard R.31 reconnaissance aircraft, the R.32 incorporated an enclosed cabin and a more powerful engine. Two aircraft were built, the first with a  1,050 HP 14-cylinder two-row air-cooled radial Gnome-Rhône 14N01 and a second with a 835 HP V12 water-cooled Hispano-Suiza 12 Ybrs engine.

The first aircraft was tested by the Etablissements Aéronautique after which it was returned to Renard and converted back to R.31 standard. The second prototype crashed during its delivery flight when the pilot bailed out having become nauseous after smelling engine fumes in the cockpit.

No further examples of the R.32 were built as there was not a sufficient improvement in performance to warrant a production order.
