Royal Navy Aircraft Carrier HMS Leviathan R97

Leviathan was a Majestic Class light fleet carrier built for the royal Navy. The ship was laid down on October 18, 1943 and launched on June 7, 1945. Work was suspended in May 1946, and plans to convert her into a commando carrier or missile cruiser, or sell her to a foreign buyer, fell through.

During the 1950s, she was used as an accommodation ship in Portsmouth Harbour and, in 1966, her boilers were removed and sold to the shipyard refitting the Colossus-class HNLMS Karel Doorman for Argentine service. Leviathan was scrapped in May 1968 in Scotland.
