Central Tilba New South Wales Australia
Central Tilba, is a heritage village nestled in the hinterland of the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Many of its heritage listed colonial buildings have been repurposed into shops and cafes, enabling their preservation.
Getting There
Located approximately 360 kilometres south of Sydney and 230 kilometres southeast of Canberra, Central Tilba lies at the base of Mount Gulaga (formerly Mount Dromedary), a dormant volcano. It is easily accessible via the Princes Highway, which connects it to larger towns such as Narooma and Batemans Bay. Parking is available on the main street, while the Tilba Dairy has a small carpark in the rear.
The main attraction of Central Tilba is its preserved 19th-century streetscape, which has earned it a spot on the National Heritage Register. Many of these old wooden buildings now house boutique stores, art galleries, and craft shops. Each shop has a unique offering whether it’s handmade goods, antiques, or locally produced items. The conversion of these old buildings into shops has helped preserve them for future generations.
Central Tilba is also well known for its cheese, and Tilba Real Dairy offers tastings of a variety of their handcrafted cheeses.
