Crusher Plant Precinct Hornsby
Located in the northern Sydney suburb of Hornsby, the Crusher Plant Precinct is a re-imagining of an old industrial quarry site into a tranquil space with lawns, picnic shelters and barbeque facilities. Opened in March 2026, this is the first of several developments for the area that will eventually include additional walking and cycling tracks and lookouts.
Getting There
The Precinct has its own new carpark, with plenty of spaces if you want to drive. Alternately, you can walk the Heritage Steps from either the Aquatic Centre or Rosemead Road Reserve. We chose to walk up the steps, but you should be aware that they are steep, so you need to be reasonably fit.
What to Expect
Originally a basalt quarry supplying northern Sydney with crushed gravel, the 60 Ha site has (and still is) undergone a huge transformation.
The old crusher site is now a manicured lawn area with tables, chairs and BBQ areas. Scattered around are information boards detailing the area’s history. The highlight though is the 14m tall lookout platform that overlooks the old quarry. Constructed of solid old steel girders, it looks industrial reminding you of what used to be here. The views of the quarry are great as you can see over the surrounding bush land as well as the quarry.
Work was well underway on the next phase of the development, with tracks being built further around the quarry.
