827 Naval Air Squadron October 1941 – August 1942

827 NAS performed anti-submarine patrols in the Red Sea before taking tart in the invasion of Madagascar in May 1942. Indomitable then took part in the Malta Convoy Operation Pedestal, where the squadron lost five of its officers. 827 NAS re-equipped with Fairey Barracudas in January 1943.

831 Naval Air Squadron October 1941 – August 1942; March 1943 – May 1943

831 was embarked on HMS Indomitable along with 827 NAS, taking part in the same operations. 831 NAS left HMS Indomitable in May 1943 and re-equipped with Fairey Barracudas in November 1943.

817 Naval Air Squadron March 1943 – 16 July 1943

While embarked on HMS Indomitable 817 NAS covered the Sicily landings. When Indomitable was damaged by an aerial torpedo, the squadron was put ashore Gibraltar, where it disbanded on 1 September 1943. It reformed on 1 September 1943 equipped with Fairey Barracudas.
