Gloster Gauntlet in Danish Service

Gloster Gauntlet in Danish Service

In 1935, the Danish Government purchase a Gloster Gauntlet and a license to build 17 others. Assigned to No. 1 Squadron, five had been destroyed in crashes by the time of the German invasion.

The invasion of 9 April 1940 resulted in one Gauntlet destroyed on the ground and an additional four damaged but later repaired. There is no record of the Danish Gauntlets engaging in combat. Until 29 August 1943, all Danish combat aircraft were placed into storage. After this date, it was seized by the Germans and removed. The final fate of the 11 remaining Gauntlets is unknown.
