Renard R.37 Belgian Fighter Aircraft

Renard R.37 Belgian Fighter Aircraft

The Renard R.37 was a development of the Renard R.36 fighter substituting the  Hispano-Suiza 12Y liquid-cooled engine of 910hp with a Gnome-Rhône 14N-21 radial engine. The increase in power was projected to give a maximum speed of 327mph.

Armament consisted of two 13.2mm and four 7.7mm machine guns located in the wings. The change in engine type from inline to radial resulted in the deletion of the 20mm cannon.

The prototype was complete at the time of the German invasion but had not flown. Confiscated by German forces, it made it’s first flight under their control.
