Myuna Bay

Myuna Bay to Eraring Canal Track

Myuna Bay to Eraring Canal Track

Starting from the Myuna Bay Rest Area, this track follows the Lake Macquarie shore until it reaches the Eraring Canal. The track is an easy, flat path, taking approximately 15–30 minutes to reach the outlet canal. Along the way, there are great views over the lake. Around halfway, and after crossing a wooden bridge over Whiteheads Lagoon you pass the Myuna Bay Scout Camp. There are signs where the camp starts, asking you to stay on the track so as not to trespass on the Scout’s camp.

Upon reaching the Eraring Power Station outlet canal, you get to see the water used to cool the power station’s turbines rushing out to the lake. The warm waters attract turtles, rays, and various bird species, although we only saw a few pelicans. Fishing is permitted during certain times, but swimming and boating are prohibited. There were a few people fishing when we arrived, mostly on the far bank.

Getting There

Myuna Bay Rest Area is easily accessible via Wangi Road. If you’re traveling from Toronto, it’s located just past the Wangi Wangi turn-off on the left-hand side. The area is approximately 122 km north of Sydney.

This was a quick easy walk, with some great views. The water coming from the power station along the canal and hitting the concrete block was very interesting.
