Ni-Tele Really Big Clock: Hayao Miyazaki’s Giant Clock in Tokyo

At 12 meters tall by 18 meters long the Ni-Tele Really Big Clock lives up to its name. Designed by animator Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli this masterpiece has 32 separate moving mechanical features. Its design includes unusual characters, miniature workshops, bells, and mechanical limbs. Several times a day, these features spring into action during a musical performance lasting almost three minutes. This happens four times a day on weekdays and five on weekends.

How to Get There

Located on the second story of the Nittele Tower in Minato Ward, Tokyo, it’s close to the Shiodome and Shimbashi Stations.

We walked there from the Hamarikyu Gardens which were only 7 minutes away. Access up to the clock’s level is via stairs from the street, or escalators from the courtyard. When finished, we used the Shiodome Station to get to our next destination.
