The Making of Harry Potter Tokyo – Studio Tour & Visitor Guide
Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter is a major attraction dedicated to the creation of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films. Located in Nerima, Tokyo, the studio tour opened on 16 June 2023 on the former site of Toshimaen amusement park. It became the first Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Asia and offers visitors an opportunity to explore the sets, costumes, props and special effects used to create the films.
Unlike a traditional theme park, the attraction focuses on the filmmaking process rather than rides. Visitors follow a walking route through detailed recreations of locations from the Harry Potter series. These include Hogwarts’ Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest, Diagon Alley and Platform 9¾, where the Hogwarts Express stands beside the platform.
One of the most impressive exhibits is the Ministry of Magic, a full-scale recreation exclusive to Tokyo. Visitors can explore its imposing architecture and experience the Floo Network, using lighting and smoke effects to simulate travelling through a magical fireplace.
Throughout the tour, displays explain how filmmakers created the magical world using practical effects, miniature models, animatronics and computer-generated imagery. Visitors can examine costumes worn by characters, detailed props and the techniques used to bring magical creatures to life. The exhibits demonstrate the considerable craftsmanship required to produce the films.
Several interactive experiences allow visitors to participate in scenes inspired by the series. These include riding a broomstick, appearing in a moving Hogwarts portrait and joining a Quidditch crowd. There are also numerous opportunities to photograph the sets and displays.
The attraction includes themed cafés and restaurants, where visitors can purchase refreshments, including Butterbeer. A large souvenir shop sells Harry Potter merchandise, including clothing, replica wands and collectables. Even the gift shop is Harry Potter-themed and is an attraction in itself.
