LaGG-3 Evaluated by Japan

In the spring of 1942, a Soviet pilot from the USSR’s Far Eastern Air Force Unit defected to the USSR to Japan flying a LaGG-3 series 8 fighter. He made a wheels-up landing, resulting in minor damage to the aircraft. After repairs, it was evaluated against Japanese fighters and found to be inferior. It was later destroyed in a landing accident.
