Surcouf French Submarine Cruiser

Surcouf French Submarine Cruiser

Surcouf was a large French cruiser submarine launched in 1929. Armed with twin 8″ guns in a turret in addition to 10 torpedo tubes, she also carried a Besson MB.411 floatplane for scouting. After the French armistice in 1940, she joined the Allies, but was sunk in mysterious circumstances on 19 February 1942, likely after a collision with the American freighter Thompson Lykes.
