Junkers Ju 287

Junkers Ju 287

The Junkers Ju 287 was an aerodynamic testbed built in Nazi Germany to develop the technology required for a multi-engine jet bomber. It was powered by four Junkers Jumo 004 engines, featured a revolutionary forward-swept wing, and apart from the wing was assembled largely from components scavenged from other aircraft.

Only the Ju 287 V1 flew during the war, with prototypes V2, V3 and V4 remaining incomplete at the Junkers’ factory. A derivative of the Ju 287 was completed and flown post-war in the Soviet Union as the EF 131.

Historical photographs of the Junkers Ju 287 can be found here.
