Arado Ar 196A-2

Arado Ar 196A-2

The Arado Ar 196A-2 entered production in November 1939, after the production of the initial batch of 20 Ar 196A-1s was complete. Production continued until December 1940 when it was replaced on the production line by the A-4 after 85 had been completed.

Powered by a BMW 132K nine-cylinder 960 hp radial engine, armament was improved by adding two 20 mm MG FF cannon in the wings, and a 7.92 mm MG 17 machine gun in the cowling in additional to the A-1s single 7.92 mm MG 17 machine gun at the rear of the cockpit. It could also carry two 50 kg (110 lb) bombs under the wings or two depth charges for anti-submarine warfare.
