Arado Ar 196A-4 Floatplane

Arado Ar 196A-4 Floatplane

The Arado Ar 196A-4 replaced the A-2 model in December 1940. It added an additional radio (FuG 16Z)and had a stronger airframe to withstand additional loads and stresses. As a result it’s payload capacity increased to 1,286 kg compared to the A-2s 1,063 kg.

It retained the same armament of previous models of two 20 mm MG FF cannons mounted under the wings and one 7.92 mm MG 17 machine gun mounted in the engine cowling. It also had one (sometimes upgraded to two) 7.92 mm MG 15 machine guns at the rear seat for defence. It could also carry two 50 kg (110 lb) bombs under the wings or two depth charges for anti-submarine warfare.
