Dornier Do 22

The Dornier Do 22 first flew as a prototype in 1935 and despite its good performance was not ordered by the German Luftwaffe. It was ordered in small numbers by Yugoslavia (12), Greece (12) and Latvia (4). The Yugoslav and Greek aircraft were delivered prior to hostilities commencing, but the four Latvian aircraft were retained by Germany when the Soviet Union annexed Latvia. These four Dornier Do 22Kl floatplanes were delivered to Finland instead. The Finnish Do 22s operated on floats and skis for the duration of the war.

All Greek aircraft were destroyed during the Axis invasion, while eight of the twelve Yugoslavian aircraft escaped to Egypt. Here they were operated under British Royal Air Force (RAF) control as 2 (Yugoslav) Squadron.

A single landplane prototype was constructed, but it did not proceed to production.
