Kangaroo Point to Brooklyn Boardwalk

Kangaroo Point to Brooklyn Boardwalk

Located on the Hawkesbury River at Brooklyn, this one kilometre raised boardwalk runs from Kangaroo Point to Brooklyn. Only opened in August 2025, it runs along the banks of the Hawkesbury, through mangroves and bushland, with beautiful views over the river.

Getting There

A 60-minute drive from Sydney up the M1 will get you to Brooklyn. Parking is available at Kangaroo Point but can be full on busy days. An alternative park is available at Tom Richmond Oval. This is conveniently located because it’s located opposite the end of the new boardwalk, just across the road.

Catching a train to the Hawkesbury River Station on the Central Coast and Hunter Line takes you into Brooklyn where it’s a 3 km walk to the boardwalk.

The Boardwalk

The 3m wide boardwalk is flat along its entire length, making it pram and wheelchair friendly. Although an easy walk, and often in the shade of the trees, some sections are in full sun, so don’t forget the sunscreen. As the walk winds in and out of the trees and mangroves, views over the Hawkesbury towards Brooklyn emerge, showing boats and birdlife. Don’t forget to relax and take in the views. If you need a break, bench seats are provided along the path.

At the far end from Kangaroo Point, a path leads on into Brooklyn (3km away), if you want to explore further. Because this is not a loop track, you need to retrace your steps and walk back along the boardwalk the way you came.

Food and Refreshments

Kangaroo Point has the Estuary Restaurant & Kiosk with amazing views over the surrounding Hawkesbury River. Currently open Wednesday to Sunday, check their website to see if they are open during your visit. If you choose to walk or drive into Brooklyn, there are several choices for food ranging from cafes to pubs.

We had a coffee and a snack at Kangaroo Point, where you also get a great view of the old bridge over the river (Peats Ferry Bridge).

What Did We Think?

This was a great little walk, because of its great views and wonderful location.
