Mount Oberon Summit Walk
The Mount Oberon Summit Walk is a moderately challenging trail that ascends to the summit of Mount Oberon. Covering approximately 3.4 kilometres one way, the hike is relatively short but includes steep sections that require a good level of fitness. Most walkers complete the round-trip journey in 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on their pace and the time spent at the summit. The lower section is a bitumen road that climbs steadily from the carpark to communications towers just below the summit. From here, a series of stairs and steps lead to the top. Several areas are narrow ledges, but they are well fenced making them safe.
The trail passes through dense eucalypt forest, with amazing views of the surrounding area. Along the road, several bench seats provide places to sit and recover if you find the track too steep.
The views from the top are breathtaking and a great reward for the climb to the top. We stayed there and had lunch while admiring the views. The return trip was much easier because it is all downhill.
At 6.8km return, the walk takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on your pace.
